Hi, everyone. It's Lisa. I am going to do a series of small little video clips for you guys because I wanna talk about, the full and complete hair color toolbox you guys should have. The things that a colorist really needs to have in their toolbox and, that we can use all of these different products in conjunction with other color lines. You don't have to stick to just the products from your color line. You can take a product like this and mix it with any color line, and this is how we create a full and complete toolbox that makes you go from the average stylist or hairdresser that puts on hair color to a colorist.
And the first product and the first video I wanted to do on this was on Chromastics clear shades. Here it is right here.
Now, you know, Redken was the one who came out and exploded with the clear shades EQ and then everybody followed suit and everybody came out with a clear. And they're all work the same and they're all good, but we need to work with these tools better. There's a couple of things people are doing with them that they shouldn't be doing with them, and there's a whole lot of things we can do with them that people aren't doing with them. So I wanna go through these and clear this up and give you guys some great information on how to use this product and get the full maximum benefit from it, and more importantly, what not to do with it.
So let's start with the basics. This is just a clear color. It's a clear, what's considered demi permanent color because of the pH of it, and it adds shine. And most people are using it in the glaze world, you know, on top of their bleach or on top of a toner or with a toner. So I wanna step back and talk about this product simply.
It's a clear.
That's all it is. It adds shine. So let's talk about how we can use this product. One, a cap. Every single color will add shine to your color.
That's something that we're always trying to achieve more of. Not that all clients should have a shine finish, some clients should have a matte finish. But when you want the shine finish, adding a cap of this to your color is perfect. Now, you guys have all seen the videos on our library, Legally Blonde and all of our other really great technical chemical design business videos.
And I encourage you to watch Legally Blonde because it has a lot to do with this.
We're trying to add shine. So when we're, you know, doing all the stuff before color, we're cleaning hair, we're prepping it, and it's in the best condition possible and you now add this, that's when you really see the benefit of using products like this. If you're just adding shine or adding clear or doing glazes on top of dirty hair, uneven porosity, hair that has not had a demineralizing treatment, you know, we're just trying to put lipstick on a pig at that point. So let's do this better. We're gonna clean it. We're gonna make sure the hair is in great condition, and we're going to now do the finish that we want and have it spectacular and have it last. So a cap and your color for added shine.
Another thing we can use this for is to just make translucent. Instead of buying an opaque color and a translucent color, now we can just buy an opaque color and we can make it translucent when we want.
So if you do two parts clear to one part color, you're gonna make a translucent or glaze color. So it'll be translucent and have heavy shine because we're using a clear. Now you can make all of your own toners. You don't have to buy toners. You can create whatever toner you want just by taking your regular color and adding two parts of clear. And then, of course, equal amounts of your developer, five or seven volume to make that glaze.
The creativity that it brings you is is huge versus buying a nine v or two or three toners that you use constantly on everybody, you can now create all of your toners, any color that you want just by carrying this one product.
It also gives you the ability, if you think about the glazing, is that you can lighten a level. If you're using a certain level for a gray coverage or a red or anything and you just want it a little lighter, you don't wanna change the formula, go up a level, you can just add equal amounts of clear to your color to make it a little lighter and give it shine. This is a product that every color should be using in more than one way, more than just using it as a glaze, using it as part of their everyday working to create finishes, create looks, create toners, add shine, add translucency, be able to do it over highlights and not cover over the highlights. This is a colorist screwdriver.
Should be in there, should be used constantly.
So thrilled that we got the Chromastics Clear. Now you guys know that my job is I always try to find the best quality at the best price and this is it with Chromastics Clear Shades. There's five different proteins in this product so your hair feels amazing. It's helping with the strength.
It's helping keep the integrity of the hair. Where most of these clears don't have those things in it. So we have the clear, five different proteins. We get all the benefit of having a glaze and shine and translucency and all the benefits that a product like this gives us, at a better price.
So I'm thrilled that we have Chromastics added to your next order because this is a a colorist screwdriver.
I wanna walk through now what not to do with this product and how not to use these clear products.
So we did a little experiment that we're gonna show you so you can really fully embrace how this does not work for you.
So we took a mannequin and we colored it dark. We we used a three n, a three point zero on this mannequin so we could show you how this works. So we colored her. Then we added a clear glaze on top of it.
After we rinsed it out, we we put the clear on, we let it process.
And when we took the mannequin over to rinse it, we put some white towels in. And as we were rinsing the color, you at as we were rinsing the clear, you can see all the color, the three n coming out on the white towel.
I know these products have been promoted to seal and protect, but it isn't. That's not what it's doing because as soon as we put the clear on, we're reopening the cuticle. We're we're increasing the alkalinity to the hair so the color washes right out.
After we rinse out the clear, we shampooed it. And as we rinsed out the shampoo, we put another white paper paper towel down. You can see all the colors still is coming out after the shampoo.
Then we put conditioner on the mannequin. And as we're rinsing out the conditioner, you see very little color coming out on that white towel because obviously conditioner is acidic and will start to close the cuticle, now start to save the color inside.
And we took a full picture. We dried it and took a full picture to see, to show you how much fading occurred from doing a clear glaze on top of color. This is not how you use this product.
This is not going to seal anything. Now if you use it in conjunction with your color, like I said, adding a cap or equal amounts or doubling the amount of clear to color, It becomes a really valuable tool to you as a colorist to achieve different looks and achieve different finishes, but it's not to be used alone after color because it's going to take the color out. And fading is one of the demons that we are trying to fight so hard as colorists. Go to Chromastics, click the clear shades, add it, try it, play with it, have fun with it. It is a great tool as a colorist.
I see so many color orders going out the door and not a lot of this. You might have one already. You might have someone else's. I'm gonna encourage you to try this. The proteins that are in this one are gonna make the hair feel even better.
