Hi, everybody. It's Lisa Kelly, and I have to talk to everybody. This this is important. I just got back from Florida, and I visited a few salons, talked to a bunch of hairdressers down in Florida.
It was so humid. And as I was talking to them about, you know, the frizziness and the humidity and how bad it was and the hair going flat and the hair going frizzy, and I was, you know, really surprised to see how few hairdressers are really talking to their clients about this and offering services for this particular thing. And it's not just in Florida. It's all over the country.
You know, the the less educated you are about these products, what they do, and how they work, you tend to shy away from talking about them or offering services half so it doesn't get frizzy? Don't straighten it. We can just we can loosen a curl. We can add curl without doing a whole perm.
We can do these services for people and make more money. And this is probably one of the biggest complaints clients have. And I was just talking to several people who are going to weddings coming up in the next couple weekend. And, oh, it depends on what the weather's like.
I might put my hair up. I might wear it down. It all depends on the weather. We can help do this.
And you've heard me talk about keratins in the past. This is huge, people.
You have to understand how the keratin works, what you're doing to the hair. And once you understand what you're doing, you can work with it better. And you don't have to do the whole head either. There's a lot of ways to do this to help people with their problems, and they can make their hair work for them, and it's always beautiful and helpful.
I'm telling you, the one the one hairdresser that does this for a client and solves her problem, she's never gonna leave you. It's so important, the credibility factor. I know so many stylists just wanna be on the bandwagon of the next, you know, Plex or f twenty seven. You guys know what I mean when I say that.
Following the trends and the gimmicks are not gonna make you successful. You're gonna have the same amount of success and failure year after year after year with each of these trends and gimmick products. We gotta stop falling for the snake oil and get educated. So watch this video.
It's so important. You will learn so much when you watch this video that that and be able to add tons of services and charge for them and really solve people's problems and build the credibility and get more referrals, and you're not gonna do that just by recommending the latest gimmick product. It requires education. So let's talk about the keratins.
Again, for all of the stylists who say, well, I do a Brazilian.
Brazilian blowout is a keratin treatment. It's nothing different. It is a keratin treatment.
It's not something different.
They all work the same. They're all made the same. The difference is how strong or weak they are. That's all. So if you want to straighten someone's hair, really straighten it, take all the curl out, then you go with the strong one. If you're just trying to loosen a curl or just defrizz it, you can you can adjust the product to fit the need of of the hair that you're working on and what you're trying to achieve. I've talked in the past about, you know, have a good keratin treatment.
You know, this one is Brazilian, and it, you know, it's affordable. It comes in, you know, two really affordable sizes, so you're not buying this huge thing and spending all your money. It's just your standard, right down the middle keratin treatment. You want to take out their curl and defrizz their hair.
Now, it's going to work stronger on some hair types and weaker on others. That's where you come in. You make the product work for whatever it is that you wanna do. So if you really want her hair straight, you might have to comb through it, put some tension on it, pull out that curl pattern if it's super curly, and you'll get a straighter result.
If you don't do that, you just want to put it in and start to blow dry and flat iron, you probably won't take out as much curl. But you've got to do it over and over and keep good notes on different fabrics to see how this works. I can water this down. I can do half product and half water just to maybe defrizz.
Maybe it's a temporary just so she can go to that wedding, just so she can go to these events and not get frizzy in the humid weather, which people hate. Have a good keratin treatment. It doesn't have to be Brazilian Blowout. It's a good product, but if you think that it's different than a keratin treatment, KeraRx.
It's it's more the Botox for hair. KeraRx.
It's it's more the Botox for hair. Fills in all the cracks, soft, smooth, condition feels great, great, loosens your curl. If you want it straight, again, you might have to comb through it, put some tension on the hair, leave it on a little bit longer to really straighten curlier hair types.
These are the two versions you need. These services should be done a hundred times more than they're being done. Some people don't do do them at all. They're afraid.
They're scared. If you learn about them, you don't have to be afraid or scared about it. Now let's talk let's talk about taking these two two products, these two surfaces, again, super curly, put tension on it, comb it through, comb it all one way, comb it all another way. You really put some tension on it, break down that curl pattern, leave it on a little longer if if you want it to be as straight as possible.
If you don't, you don't have to do all of those things. But let's just talk about maybe we don't do the whole head. You can foil it in. You know, if somebody's hair is out to here and they just want it to here, just a little bit better control, you can do that.
You can foil in these products. You do it the same exact way. Foil it in. Let it sit.
Blow dry and flat iron. And it will tame down. You're just weaving pieces so you can get some some looser curls in with some tighter curls and really create beautiful texture in somebody's hair, and she can control it a little bit better. Maybe you just do it at the root.
She loves her curl, but a lot of curly people just at the root of their hair, and they go out in the humid weather, and it bumps up, and it kicks out, and a curl pattern pushes this way and that way. Maybe you just do the first couple of inches so it lays down and is curly this way instead of going this way. These are all things we can do. Now when you get kinda caught up in all the gimmicks and the products and the latest trend and what's going on in social media, you miss the big picture of how to do these things.
Now you can do the same thing with the formaldehyde free version. Weave it in. Maybe just do the first couple inches. Maybe you're just doing the back of the hair.
Maybe she has a short haircut. You want this to lay down flat and leave the curl up here. We gotta stop, take a breath, forget all the ridiculousness and the snake oil, and think about how creative we can be with the products we already have. I love this version too.
Yep.
Good old faithful frosting cap. Pull the hair through the cap and do these services through this. And just break up between the natural curl and getting rid of the other half of it. The texture it creates, and you can be creative where you pull it through the cap.
Maybe you do it on on the back more than on the top. Maybe you do it on the top more than the back. But this is a great way to add a service that you're not giving them a full keratin treatment or smoothing treatment, loosening up that curl, making it easier for her to blow dry, making it easier for her to go out in the humid weather. And let me tell you, thank god I had a a smoothing treatment done to my hair before I went to Florida.
I would have been in in a ponytail the entire time. It was so humid.
These are things that we can really introduce to our clients, educate our clients, do this for them, work it up slowly so you could earn their trust. And when they see the results of this type of thing, they're yours forever, the credibility. And you've solved the problem and you're and you're being creative and and you're using the tools that you should should have at the salon to better your career versus buying the next gimmick product. Now, let's talk about that on the other side.
We can talk about taking out the curl, loosening the curl, defrizzing the curl. We have the tools to do that. And you have a hundred different creative ways of doing the service, whether it's the cap or the foil or all over. You have a hundred ways of doing this to be that super creative stylist.
Now let's talk about all the straight hair. I mean, everybody's curling their hair. Everybody's doing the curling wands. You know, why can't we do the same thing for them?
Why can't we add a little texture to their hair, so when they do the curl wand or they add that curl to their hair, it stays better. How about we add a little wave or curl to straight hair that when they go out in the humid weather, it doesn't go collapse and fall down up against their head. We can do the same thing. Yep.
Gonna pull it out again, people. The good old trusty frosting cap. How about you pull the hair through this cap, take big, big rods, and perm it on top of the cap. You don't even have to perm all of the hair.
But take big rods, pull through the cap. You're not doing a conventional perm. You're just adding some texture, some waves, some movements. When they do the curl, it stays longer.
It stays better. They have more texture in their hair. This is what everybody's going for. You can buy all the ridiculous, trendy, stupid products that come out every single year, but if you're not trained how to do this and understand the tools you have and how to work with them to to make these types of looks and textures and finishes for your clients, it's just gonna be the same repeat pattern year after year after year, you know, that you're doing the same old thing.
You're just following the next gimmick in the next trend. When you can really just sit back, learn some of this stuff, and go, wow, that's a great idea. I mean, I can do that. There is nothing wrong with using frosting caps.
You know, doing highlights with super short hair, this is the way to go. I mean, four inches or shorter, this is the way to go. We need to start thinking, being a little bit more creative. The more you understand the tools, the better.
You know, now, Two Toe has bulk perms right here. Right? Coarse hair, normal hair, color treated. It's perfect for stuff like this.
You're not wasting a whole box of color on doing, you know, a quarter of a head or half of a head of hair. You know, you take what you need from it. These guys are also great at straightening hair, right? If you don't put a rod around it and you put it through the hair straight, it's going to straighten their hair.
So we have all of these tools to create texture, to smooth hair, to to lessen curl, to completely take out curl, and to create curl. These are the tools we need, and we need to start getting more into this texture conversation.
Offer these texture services to our clients. It's huge. I guarantee you.
Somebody like me, a curly hair client, I came in and you offered me a a keratin or a smoothing treatment, I would do it. I would do it a minute, and I love mine, and I would stay with it forever.
I I love my keratin treatments. The summer months don't bother me. The humidity doesn't bother me. It's easier for me to blow dry my hair.
And even today, as rainy as it is outside just here south of Boston, my hair is starting to wiggle a little. Blue dry. Look it. It's wiggling a little.
Look at the flips. Okay. If I didn't have a keratin treatment, I would look like, you know, my hair would be up to here right now. It's huge for us as professionals.
In my opinion, professionals don't follow the trends. They don't follow the gimmicks. They don't buy into the latest bullshit every single time somebody comes out with a new thing. You gotta get educated and trained in these products.
If you want more education, more information, you should come to our Freaks and Geeks classes. We go through everything. We start with a strand of hair, and we work through every tool and every product that's available to use and and to learn about them so you can now be creative. Now go, well, I use this for this, and I have to have this brand for that.
No. Once you understand it's a keratin treatment, you know how to do a keratin treatment. Now that you know how to do that, now let's get creative with it. Let's get creative with that.
These are still fairly new, these zero formaldehyde. They're awesome. You should have one of each.
These guys are amazing. You can do the same thing by creating texture. This right now, pull it through, throw a few big rods in it, and give that client texture when she when she's using her curl wand that it stays better. These things are huge. Forget the bullshit.
Forget the marketing. Forget the sales. Forget trying to hook you in on some snake oil, and let's get educated in these products and really bring a home run to our clients sitting in the chair. Talk to her.
Ask her what bothers her the most if you have the tools to do it. You have the creativity to do it. You're gonna add money to your service. You're gonna build your credibility.
This is how you become successful, not because you have the latest thing that everybody else has. It hasn't worked for fifty years. It hasn't worked for fifty years buying the latest and greatest or a big name or or anything like that. It's getting educated and knowing what you're doing and really finding the creative side of you as a stylist inside to take the products and then go forward and and and work with clients and and achieve everything that they want you to achieve with them.
So I hope this video was huge. And if it wasn't, I want everybody to buy a ticket, go to Florida, and spend a week in the humidity, and then come back and start talking about keratins to every single client that sits in that chair. You'll see what I mean.
